Weekly ReminderJanuary 8, 2007Text Box: Busy
Some of us do not notice the Race for Education information that soon will come home simply because we are in a race for daily life. The pace of life is so fast that we miss out on some of the most important things. (Sometimes, even our holidays can be so fast-paced that we need to get back into the routine of school to relax!)
What kinds of things do we give ourselves to—all with good reason? Well, there are the opportunities for children: sports, music lessons, dance, church activities, and scouting. All of these are good and can be supported with any number of reasons for pursuit. Then add to the calendar the normal regimen of appointments with doctors-for eyes/ teeth/ normal sicknesses, orthodontists, and the barber! On top of that, put into the schedule those things that we parents pursue, and our lives and calendar become overloaded. The number of opportunities is limitless. The difficulty is determining what we think will serve our family best.
May I mention what is best. In our efforts to determine what to pursue, we cannot forget the things that ought to be non-negotiable. This is a sample list: worship on Sundays, family devotions, family meals, personal times spent in God’s Word, and encouragement for children to build that same habit. Many of these goals are all tied to the formation of a Christian worldview. It is the Word of God that tells us about ourselves, our world and about God, Himself. There is nothing more important.
Let’s make sure that these spiritual pursuits are at the top of the list and then think about what else we should be involved in.
